4 Year Academic GP Training The Norwich STS has two academic GP placements available on the Scheme in conjunction with the UEA School Of Medicine
"…hospital posts in a new state-of-the-art hospital…"
"…a broad range of General Practice to experience…"
A long established GP Speciality Training Scheme, the Norwich GPSTS is centred at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, but has General Practice at its heart.
The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is a large, purpose built, 21st Century Hospital adjacent to the University of East Anglia Campus. Sited towards the west of Norwich, it provides a full range of acute services in a modern setting, with a catchment population of 800,000.
The scheme is now in its second year of hosting Academic Clinical Fellows in GP training, in conjunction with the school of medicine at the UEA. These academic GP training posts comprise 18m hospital and 18m GP practice with a further 12m working in research and an MSc qualification.
There are 28 General Practices that host GP Registrar placements. Each registrar will spend 18 of the 36 months training within General Practice. This offers each registrar a chance to sample at least 2 from the variety of available practices, which range from Singlehanded, to Large Group Practices, Inner-City to Rural, PMS & GMS, Dispensing and Non-Dispensing.
The scheme operates a fortnightly day-release course which GP Registrars in practice and some hospital placements attend. This takes place at the NANIME centre at the hospital with regular externally based courses.
