Wymondham is an attractive, historic market town, within South Norfolk, it is also a thriving, growing community. The A11 bypass and a town improvement scheme have greatly improved the town centre environment.
While many Wymondham people now work in Norwich, commuting by car, bus or train, the town has maintained a strong employment base, providing work in a wide range of commercial enterprises. Norfolk Constabulary's headquarters has relocated to Wymondham, and further provision has been made for industrial development.
The town still provides a centre for the local farming community, Monthly farmers' markets bring local producers and local people together, and Friday markets remind the visitor that an active, independent town life continues to thrive, despite the influence and attractions of neighboring Norwich.
The practice premises are situated on the south side of the town close to the A11, 8 miles from the centre of Norwich and just 1/2 mile from Wymondham Town Centre. The other practice in Wymondham has been running for around 15 years and has a list size of circa 4000.
We are a non dispensing, PMS moving to GMS practice with personal lists within catchment area of South Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group.
We have 13 GP consulting rooms and an up to date Nursing Wing, which was extended in April 2004 and May 2013 and now provides 10 consulting rooms and 2 treatment bays.
On site there is an independant pharmacy and a NHS Dental Practice, both of whom are tenants of the Partnership.
We have attached midwives, and Macmillan nurse whilst the local health centre provides community paediatrics, district nurses, health visitors, physiotherapists, speech therapists, dieticians and chiropodists in support of our community.
The Partnership currently comprises 6 full-time Partners, 4 part-time female Partners and 4 part-time salaried GPs. The Nursing team comprises of 4 Nurse Practitioners, 5 Practice Nurses and 5 Health Care Assistants. The opening hours of the practice are currently 8am to 6om Monday to Friday with extended hours offered to Monday evenings and Saturday mornings.
Out of hours & 111 are provided in Norfolk by IC24.
The practice uses Systmone a Windows based clinical system which is very user friendly. All our consultations are recorded onto the computer and there are templates and coding sets to aid with consistent Read Coding. Whilst the system is sophisticated enough to satisfy the needs of the most advanced user, it is simple and easy enough to engage the novice.
We also have an extensive suite of ancillary Microsoft (and other) programmes. The practice operates registration and pathology service links and is comprehensively furnished with up-to-date an clinical equipment.
As a practice we value good communication and hold regular meetings. We have a buddy group system for support and cover during days off and absences. All GPs meet after morning surgery over coffee whilst completing prescriptions and paperwork.
Partners meetings are held on a regular basis for the purpose of discussing strategic and operational concerns.
we also have a rolling annual programme of clinical governance, palliative care, QOF and require greater time and attention.
We have an expanding patient list of approximately 18,600 drawn from Wymondham and its surrounding villages. There has been considerable new development within the town and there are plans for this to continue. We encourage patients to see the doctor with whom they are registered but offer the facility for them to see any doctors if they so desire.
Each full-time GP undertakes to complete 8 surgeries a week of which one afternoon sessions comprises of ante-natal afternoons.
Special interests can be accommodated either during a partner's afternoon off, or following on after ante-natal afternoons.
There is a Duty Doctors system in operation whereby, on a rotational basis, a GP will have no booked appointments but will see patients requesting same day attendance/urgent consultations. Throughout the day there is always a Nurse Practitioner on duty in support of the duty doctor who is available to triage any emergencies. We have a number of nurse led clinics namely in the areas of Diabetes, COPD, Asthma, Smoking Cessation, Women's Health, Family Planning and Minor Illness.
